I have just read that there have been 99000 unwanted teenage pregnancies in South Africa this year alone. This got me thinking. Of course.

My mother often said to me: "You reap what you sow, my boy." Meaning that everything you do in life is an investment with a natural return. The harder you work, the more you benefit. The more you give, the more you get. And so on. Of course, in business, return is everything. The sole function of any business is to achieve the greatest possible return for the least possible effort. It's all about profit, which IS return. But sometimes the concept of return for effort can go horribly wrong. As it does when it comes to human reproduction. Before I continue, let me say that I fully understand that all creatures were given a sense of sexual desire for a very good reason. Because without it there would be no reproduction at all, and the world would soon become a very lonely place. But the Human Animal likes to disguise this desire as a bi-product of LOVE by calling the actual ACT of reproducing, making love. This is debatable, because I believe that the act of copulating is driven by one thing only...pure carnal PLEASURE culminating in the grand finale...a 10 second orgasm. And here lies the problem. For just the pleasure of a simple 10 second orgasm, the return is a fully functional, eating, breathing, needy, destructive, greedy, dependant HUMAN BEING who can live for as long as 100 years. Just one more "ape" that this overcrowded Earth doesn't need! So, I would say that most, if not all of these 99000 unwanted pregnancies were generated by the very basic desire for a quick orgasm. Love never even came into it. It was just an itch that needed scratching. A transient desire which needed satisfying. And when you look at it that way, a whole human being for just a 10 second orgasm is a truly terrible return. - Don Clarke , in The Drakonteur.
